Sparta is a community of 9000 population nestled in the rolling hills of west central Wisconsin, where people are friendly and good conversation is always welcome. Take a stroll through our quiet community and experience Sparta's historic downtown filled with mom-and-pop businesses and unique eateries.
Sparta's many parks are an attraction in themselves. The newest city park is over 100 acres with walking trails along the river, bird watching and solitude. The state bike trail, award-winning golf course, swimming pool and the LaCrosse River/Beaver Creek provide plenty of outdoor recreation.
Our schools are rated excellent and include a new middle school. We have several large businesses (Northern Engraving, Century Foods, Mathews, Inc.) and nearby Fort McCoy is our largest employer.
The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce employs three full time and one part time "summer weekend" person. the office is open from 8:30am-4:30pm seven days a week in the summer (May 1-Nov.1) and Monday through Friday from Nov. 2 to April 30. We offer maps and state and regional tourist publications and Chamber member brochures and business contacts. We sell souvenirs and Sparta/Trail merchandise.
